In 2002 I began working on what was to be my final CD, A LIKELY STORY. I had been writing songs since I was nine, and had been recording and making records since I was nineteen. From the age of nineteen until I was forty-two my life’s focus was to hone my songwriting skills, and to plan for each upcoming record. I lived to make music, and it was great fun!

The new songs I had written were intended to be straightforward, more literal, less metaphorical than those on my other records. Many of them were quite personal, fuzzy memories mostly that I felt I needed to make clear. The arrangements were straightforward too, essentially the same as those we played at our live concerts.

This song, Sitting in the Big Chair was one of the first I wrote for that CD. The world needs more songs about furniture, I figured. And so it began.
